Printing for the way Raleigh does business.
Raleigh is a research, university and state government city, and its businesses print like people who read the specifications.
Raleigh anchors the Research Triangle with Durham and Chapel Hill: technology and life sciences companies in the Research Triangle Park, three major universities, the state government downtown, and a healthcare sector to match. Downtown and Glenwood South carry the restaurants and nightlife; North Hills carries the newer offices and shops; the suburbs of Cary and Apex carry the households.
Print in Raleigh should be precise and unfussy. Engineers and researchers read the small type, so make it accurate. Matte cards suit most of the Triangle; a soft touch finish suits a practice or a firm. Postcards and door hangers reach subdivisions that fill with new residents every year.
Where print earns its keep in Raleigh.
Print works differently in different parts of a city. These are the places in Raleigh where a printed piece tends to do the most work, and the piece that usually suits each one.
Downtown and Glenwood South. State government, law and the restaurants around them. Cards for the meetings and flyers for the nights.
North Hills and Midtown. Offices, boutiques and practices. Rack cards and cards with a polished look.
Research Triangle Park and the university areas. Tech, biotech and campus businesses. Sales sheets with real specifications and cards for the team.
The Raleigh Convention Center and PNC Arena. Conferences and events. A retractable banner and a sales sheet.
One clear purpose. The right piece of paper.
What Raleigh tends to order. Raleigh's print reflects a city that reads the fine print. Sales sheets matter most: biotech and hardware teams in Research Triangle Park use them to brief investors and research partners, and need accurate specifications, not just a clean look. Matte business cards suit the government, legal and university crowd downtown, while postcards and rack cards work the restaurant strip on Glenwood South. Door hangers and EDDM postcards reach the subdivisions spreading around Cary, Apex and Wake Forest.
Put a readable name first, then one line about what you do, then the one contact route you want people to use. A finish should support that, never make it harder to read.
Compare business card finishes| The moment | What usually works |
|---|---|
| A conference at the Convention Center | A retractable banner, booth cards and a sales sheet |
| A biotech startup in the Park | Business cards and a sales sheet for the road show |
| A restaurant opening in Glenwood South | Postcards and rack cards from opening night |
| A practice in Cary or Apex | Rack cards and a door hanger route |
Make the whole set feel like your business.
A Raleigh note. Raleigh design is clean, technical and friendly: a sans-serif, a clear grid, one colour. If you sell to researchers, the sales sheet matters more than the card; get the numbers right and give them room. Matte stock, always.
A brand does not need every piece to look identical, only a consistent voice, a deliberate palette and type that works at several sizes. Bring your logo, or start from nothing: print product design is $97 and logo design is $250, set up for the product and finish you picked.
See what design costsPlan around the day you need it in hand.
Work backward from the day the materials have to be ready, and leave room for artwork, the proof, production and shipping. Each product page states its own time on press: two to three business days for most cards and postcards once you approve your proof, three to four for soft touch and door hangers, seven to twelve for the XL banner. Shipping sits on top of that. Give us the delivery address and your date when you order, with a receiving name if it is going to a venue, a hotel or a shared office. If the date is fixed, say so and we will tell you whether it is possible before you pay.
Getting print into Raleigh. The Triangle is really three cities: a piece meant for a lab in the park is a real drive from a Glenwood South restaurant or a Cary subdivision, so plan the address list by area, not one radius. University and research-park mail typically routes through a central mailroom rather than straight to a lab, so a building and department name helps. State buildings downtown often need a name and floor for the dock, and humid summers can soften stock left on a porch.
Mailing in Raleigh. For postcards by route, Five Points, Cameron Village, North Hills and Cary are neighbourhoods where a mailer reaches households.
Give the file your full attention.
Use the artwork guide on the product you picked, because the finished size, the bleed and the safe area are not the same for every format. Upload a PDF, PNG or JPG and the size, bleed and resolution are checked in your browser, then your proof arrives by email and nothing goes to press until you approve it. Read your own details out loud when it lands: names, numbers, web addresses, dates, spelling and which side is which. If there is a QR code, scan it yourself.
